The Science behind Crystal Healing

There are many minds when the words “Science” and “Crystal Healing” are put together.

What do I mean by “Many Minds”. Some say it is “hocus pocus”. Some say it is the power of suggestion, a placebo. Some say “Who cares if it works” and others say “no it doesn’t”.

And that’s ok. Here’s what I think.

Some stuff about the human body

We humans have nerves throughout our body. Electrical impulses run through these nerves from the brain to different parts of the body, from the body back to the brain and from one part of the body to another.

These “messages” in the body create a subtle but measurable, biofield. Which is very similar to the way that when electricity runs through a wire it creates a magnetic field around it. see Oersted's Law.

Some stuff about Crystals

Crystals have this property called Diamagnetism. It means that many crystals create a weak magnetic field in the presence of an external magnetic field.

One thing about Physics

Magnetic fields affect the movement of electrons through wires.

Piecing it together

You can probably already see where I am going with this.

The electrical signals in our body create a magnetic field.

The field affects the crystal we are holding, creating a magnetic field in the crystal.

The magnetic field of the crystal in turn affects the electrical impulses in our nerves.

And so.....

I don’t think it’s magic. I do think it is pretty magical. But I don’t think it is magic.

“But different people get different results. For it to be science there must be repeatable results.”

And I couldn’t agree, and disagree, more. And I’ll use an example to explain.

Two different people hold a piece of Rose Quartz, long observed and recorded (two primary aspects of science) as having a property to promote self love, by various cultures around the world (so it’s been independently peer reviewed too, interesting).

One stops smoking, the other ends up going through 5 years of depression.

What if, the most important need communicated by the body of the first person was to stop smoking, and for the second person, to process the childhood trauma that has been controlling their life.

The superficial results are different between these two people.

And yet, both, hold at their core “self love”.

Perhaps it is our perspective and the way we are measuring the results that is leading some to jump to conclusions.

And that’s OK. ;)

Why Do Different Crystals Have Different Effects?

Why do different crystals do different things?

Why do some different crystals do the same things?

Here is my 2 cents worth...

This is written with the assumption that you have already read the Science of Crystals article on this page.

The Foundation: Crystalline Structure

At the heart of every crystal lies its crystalline structure, a lattice-like arrangement of atoms. Crystals are classified into seven crystal systems—cubic, hexagonal, tetragonal, orthorhombic, monoclinic, triclinic, and amorphous—each characterized by its unique geometric configuration.

Some examples;

Fluorite has a Cubic crystalline structure. Recognised for it’s assistance with creating order, cubes (boxes) are an orderly way in which to sort the world....

Garnet also has a cubic structure though it is about healing broken bonds of love. Or put another way, making sense of and putting in order that which seems to be in a mess.

The Influencing Factors: Chemical Composition

The other thing that makes a crystal unique is what it is made out of. What it is composed of.

Each crystal is composed of specific chemical elements and compounds, often resulting in different colours.

Continuing the example above, Garnet is Red to orange. Red and orange are associated with the Root and Sacral Chakras, those parts of our life that are foundational, such as Love and connection.

Fluorite is often purple or green. Colours associated with the heart and third eye (mind) chakras, such as mental and emotional aspects of life.

So which one do I need??? and for what???

There are many sites and books that document the spiritual/developmental benefits of the various crystals. And that is a great place to start.

As you become more attuned to subtle energies you may want to try out a different approach though..

Below I have listed a few different crystals in a grid based on their structure. Do your own research to look for trends of properties based on the structure, then explore the colours of the spectrum of each crystal. Perhaps overlayed with the chakra meanings (or other colour system you feel comfortable with)

About Me

Welcome to The Crystal Wizzard, my name is Jonathan and thankyou for taking the time to learn more about who I am and why I do what I do.

I believe that everyone of us has with ourselves a unique “bit”, a spark of “something”, that has come into this life, right now, right at this particular point in time because the world, life, the universe, NEEDS that thing to be realised. To be made real and fully expressed.

I also believe that for many of us, that “thing” is inhibited by a myriad of different constraints. From self doubt, to limiting beliefs that we may not even consciously be aware of, to systemic barriers, to name just a few.

However, I also know that, for me at least, striving against such things has only reinforced them more strongly. The old, “What we resist, persists.”

“Not the maker of plans and promises, but rather the one who offers faithful service in small matters. This is the person who is most likely to achieve what is good and lasting.”

Goethe

I think this is a powerful and profound saying, I have it on my wall right above the stove so each nigh as I am cooking dinner I am reminded.

Many focus on the “Faithful Service” because it is an incredibly necessary aspect. I believe that the “Small Things” are just as necessary.

Knowing what to do, and then doing it faithfully.

I noticed in my life, that the right, subtle changes had profound effects. I also noticed that many people don’t notice the effects because they are caught up in the busyness of life. And that’s OK. We are all here, each to live our lives however we want.

What I have found is that by making precise, small adjustments, in order to seek balance, my results were magnified immeasurably.

And so for over 15 years, I have immersed myself in the study and practice of working with, rather than against, these subtle energies. After 15 years I still consider myself a student, and hope to continue to be a student for many years to come. I willingly share my knowledge to any other like minded individuals on their quest.
